Ammonium sulfate (metallurgical)

Market

Ammonium sulfate – nitrogen- and sulphur- containing crystal fertilizer.

• In agriculture it is used as a basic fertilizer for different crops;

• In industry it is used in the production of viscose fiber

• In the glass industry - as additives to the glass blend in order to improve it’s melting;

• In biochemistry for protein purification, as an ingredient for many vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis;

• In the food industry it is registered as a food additive E517, is used in the manufacture of bakery products to accelerate the process of yeast fermentation;

• Used in the technology of water chlorination with ammonation. It is brought into the treated water a few seconds before chlorine, together with the chlorine forms chloramines, binding free chlorine, thereby considerably reducing the formation of organic chlorine harmful for the human body, chlorine consumption, and corrosion of pipes water carriers;

• In extinguishing media ammonium sulfate is used as a fire retardant, in the mining industry - as a gelling component while preventive treatment of waste. Ammonium sulfate is introduced into the composition of the explosive in order to reduce flammability and eliminate the risk of spontaneous combustion.

Ammonium sulfate has a number of distinct advantages over other nitrogen fertilizers. It is a sulfur-containing nitrogen fertilizer, which has good physical properties: low caking during storage, well scattered.

Also, ammonium sulfate is used for the production of:

• herbicides;

• animal feed;

• tanning;

• building insulation.
